Our Program
My Montessori offers each child an individualized education. The classroom
environment is child centered and encourages natural curiosity and love
for learning. Every child learns at their own pace and enjoys freedom
of choice in a calm and peaceful atmosphere.
Our classrooms are bright and beautiful spaces. They are prepared so that
children work freely and independently once the teacher has given them
formal lessons. Our specialized Montessori materials are designed to keep
teaching the child once the lesson has been given. Through play and exploration,
the child discovers information on their own, as opposed to being “taught
and trained” by an adult. Fatigue-free learning and self-confidence
are inherent bi-products of this natural process of discovery and learning.
Our teachers are formally educated and certified in high quality Montessori
training programs. All teachers also require state certification. My Montessori
is a member of the American Montessori Society and Montessori schools
of Massachusetts which ensures our curriculum is authentic and of the
highest quality. We are accredited and licensed by the Department of Early
Education and Care.
Each child is respected as an individual, nurtured, and lovingly assisted
along the road to independence.
“Never help a child with a task at which he feels he can succeed.”
-Maria Montessori
Primary (2.9-6 years)
The Primary classroom encourages children to learn from each other. The
younger members of the community academically benefit from early access
to advanced activities and lessons. They are effortlessly absorbing the
lessons around them by simply being in the rich environment. The older
children naturally take on leadership roles. As we watch older children
respectfully interact with the younger ones, we see their potentials unfold.
The Primary teacher’s role is one of a careful observer and guide
as the children progress at their own pace. The specially prepared environment
is designed to draw a child toward a progression of skills. The uninterrupted
“work cycle” also allows the child to focus on a task for as
long as they would like and to master each skill.
There are five major areas to the Primary classroom environment: practical
life, sensorial, language, math, and culture (culture includes science,
geography and art.) Each area creates proficiency in traditional studies
through real life, hands on exercises
In our mixed age Primary classroom, the Kindergarten student is a natural
leader, empowered to help and guide younger students. The Kindergarten year is the time when many of the earlier lessons come
together and become a permanent part of the young child’s educational
growth. They learn through experiences and grow from each success.
The Kindergarten curriculum is carefully structured and integrated to
connect within the Common Core Standards. The environment is tailored
to build literacy while engaging students to challenge themselves. Kindergarten
year highlights critical thinking, composition, and research based projects.
In Montessori, your child continues to set the pace for their own education
and developmental growth.
Kindergarten represents a critical milestone in a young child’s life.
It is a time of transition from dependence to independence—a year
of learning, marked growth and transformation.
“The child should love everything he learns. Whatever is presented
to him must be made beautiful and clear. Once this love has been kindled,
all problems confronting the educationalist will disappear.”
-Maria Montessori
Nature Program
My Montessori School’s unique nature program follow the seasons and
takes full advantage of natural habitats surrounding the school. Each
season’s unique events include planting in the garden, fall harvest,
forest ecology, art and nature. Spending time in nature is an important
component of child health and development. Nature inspires curiosity,
creativity and a sense of freedom. Playing in natural landscapes provides
opportunities for motor development and sensory experiences.
My Montessori children learn from hands-on exploration both in and out
of the classroom. The nature component also offers programming in our
after care, summer and vacation programs. It is a unique and in depth
way to learn and explore the living world from the garden through the
meadow to the forest and beyond.
“The education of even a small child, therefore, does not aim at preparing
him for school, but for life.”
-Maria Montessori
